Recognizing and Outsmarting Emotional Triggers Webinar

October 7, 2020
12:30 pm (EDT)

Managing emotions wisely is a massively important LeaderMom skill, especially under stress and when fatigued, which all of us are in some way in Covid-19.

At this moment in time, we are dealing with anxiety and other aversive emotions, while moving quickly.

We are prone to feel something uncomfortable and react immediately. When we do so, we tend to skip right over the important data our feelings offer us.

This reactivity is often caused by our fall into a thinking trap: jumping to a conclusion, taking something personally, or catastrophizing are a few of these traps. We don’t slow down long enough (20 seconds) to notice what we feel and how we are captured by a thinking trap, and we respond unwisely. These thinking traps, rooted in beliefs such as “I’m not doing enough,” “I’m a terrible mom,” “They will never promote me,” can drive us unconsciously (in seconds) towards unproductive behavior: we isolate, armor up, attack, or self-sabotage. We have given into our emotional triggers.

We want to learn to notice, pause, investigate, and then choose wisely.

Here’s the good news: as we recognize our triggers and figure out which responses are and are not effective, we can deliberately identify behaviors that will help us achieve the thing we really want and practice those. And we will be more effective and less exhausted when we do.
It takes effort, and it is very, very worth it. This is a LeaderMom skill that brings tremendous benefit in terms of reduced anxiety, less frequent missteps, increase clarity and calm and overall greater optimism and satisfaction.

In this session, you will gain…

  • A view into how you can make big changes and big gains with our simple change model
